What do I do in a Sound Journey (bath)?
A Sound Journey (bath) is a fully passive experience. You simply make yourself comfortable, generally lying down but can be seated if that's more comfortable for you. Close your eyes, and let the sounds guide you into a calm, mediative state. No movement is required.
You can set an intention if you'd like, but it's not necessary. Bring focus to your breath naturally, listen, and allow yourself to relax and let go physically and mentally.
It's normal for your mind to wander, or for the inquisitive part to come into play, if this does then gently focus with your eyes closed on your third eye point and bring your attention back to the sounds.
After the Sound Journey, there is a period of silence. You are encouraged to remain in this stillness with your eyes closed for a few minutes to allow your body and mind to readjust gently. Following that you will be guided through some gentle stretches and breathwork to help you reintegrate and ground yourself before re-entering your day.
What do I wear and bring with me?
Comfort is key to any Sound Journey (bath). If you are not physically at ease, it can be very distracting and you will find it hard to relax and enjoy the experience.
Wear comfortable, loose fitting warm clothing that allows you to feel fully relaxed; think lounge comfy wear. Layers are a good idea, as your body temperature will drop after about 10 minutes from lying still.
I recommend bringing:
-
A comfortable mat to lie on
-
A warm blanket
-
A comfortable pillow
-
Warm socks
-
An eye mask (optional)
-
A water bottle
-
An open mind and willingness to rest
Added Extras that some people bring for added comfort:
-
A sheep skin rug or an extra thick blanket to go on top of your mat
-
A sleeping bag (non noisy)
-
Extra pillow to go under your knees or back
What if the session is outside?
If the session is outdoors, consider extra layers, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
What will I experience?
Every Sound Journey (bath) is a unique experience. There is no set pattern to what you may feel, and each session can feel different, even for the same person.
Your experience may be influenced by:
-
Your physical or emotional state
-
Life circumstances or personal energy levels
-
Unprocessed emotions or energetic blocks
-
The presence of metal implants or musculoskeletal conditions
-
The phase of the moon and the energy of each season
Some people experience:
-
Deep relaxation or fall asleep
-
A sense of drifting in and out of sleep
-
A feeling of being awake but relaxed
-
Tingling, warmth, or vibrations in the body
-
Strange sensations
-
A sense of lightness, heaviness, or calmness
-
Vivid imagery or visionary journeys
-
A peaceful calm meditative state
-
Very little or not really experience anything at all.
-
Emotional releases
-
A sense of clarity
-
A feeling of sensitivity or generally feeling unsettled
All of the above are perfectly normal experiences and responses, but if you do feel uncomfortable or over whelmed there is self help guidance that will be given prior to the session so that you know exactly how to deal with it.
Can I attend if I am pregnant?
It is not recommended during the first trimester. After that, pregnant women are welcomed at my Sound Journeys (baths) once you have obtained clinical consent from your healthcare provider.
There is not much scientific research specifically on sound baths during pregnancy, so I approach it with care and with individual consideration. It's always best to consult your health care provider first, especially if you are classed a high risk pregnancy.
If you choose to attend:
-
Let the facilitator know you are pregnant
-
Lie on your left side as this improves blood flow to the placenta and baby, it helps relieve pressure on major blood vessels, can reduce swelling and improve kidney function, and tends to be more comfortable for most pregnant women
-
Bring extra pillows or props for support
-
You may prefer to be in a semi reclined position especially if you are in your third trimester
-
Avoid sitting or lying at the front near the instruments (like large gongs or crystal bowls)
-
Listen to your body and feel free to leave or adjust your position at any time
Your safety and comfort are my priority, and I am happy to help you settle in for a relaxing, supportive experience.
You may find it more beneficial having a private 1:2:1 Sound Journey as this can then be tailor made for your specific needs.
